A practical, easy-to-use and fast application that provides the necessary tools to browse news and download files from newsgroups
iGrabNews is a well organized Mac OS X utility designed to help you browse and download articles posted on Usenet newsgroups that are hosted on various servers. However, keep in mind that the project is no longer under development.
At the moment, the iGrabNews application comes in two versions: the stable release, which requires a PowerPC compatible architecture, and a beta release that is able to run on more recent OS X versions, such as Yosemite.
The bad news is that, during our test, the iGrabNews beta version did not manage to connect to any newsgroup server, and crashed constantly. On the other hand, the stable version worked properly, which means that you can still use it on older Mac computers.
Unsophisticated newsgroup viewer that can quickly download all included articles
To start using the iGrabNews application, you must connect to a newsgroup server and fetch the entire groups list, or only the ones that contain a certain term. The next step is to browse the results and subscribe to the groups that interest you by using the Command+U hotkey, or the appropriate contextual menu option.
In the Servers&Subscribed Groups panel you will be able to see all your subscription, and then trigger the articles download process in each case (open the contextual menu to gain access to the function). Once the transfer is complete, you can view the content of each posted message with a simple double click.
Effortlessly keep track of all your newsgroups via this user friendly download manager
All in all, if you manage to connect to your newsgroup servers, working with the iGrabNews application proves to be fairly intuitive. Even if the software archive does not include any documentations, most functions can be easily accessed via contextual menus.
For your convenience, iGrabNews also integrates simple but efficient search and filtering tools designed to help you find specific items or groups faster.
